Mixter is the latest project by visual artist Bartosz Wajer, combining elements of painting and photography.
“Mixter (no name)” is a series of works that was created directly on the matrix of a disassembled digital SLR camera in processes such as painting, drawing, cleaning, and destroying. The images were taken without the classic designed rules of using a photographic camera. The works involve using closely related disciplines (painting and photography) to turn them into abstract images whose organic forms and colors are endowed with a specific energy and vitalism of their own. In the spirit of this mix of disciplines, the work develops a peculiar kind of (experimental) photography, initiated in earlier series such as “Conan,” “Saturday Morning Selfie,” and “From Eye To Bone.” The title “Mixter” is used among gender non-binary people and people who do not want to imply gender. Mx / Mixter can be interpreted as mixing or multiplexing and is a gender-neutral alternative to the Mr. and Mrs. titles. By combining the name of the series of paintings with a term that goes beyond the standard understanding of gender, I would like to emphasize the heterogeneous and multidirectional nature of human identity (also in relation to plants, animals, things, or features).
