Iza Smelczyńska

Project Coordinator – PRZEKRÓJ Foundation; Lead Editor of Audio Section – Przekroj.pl
A musicologist with no diploma (but that’s due to change soon). As a child, she couldn’t stand the sound of her computer mouse clicking, so she chose to play the piano instead. After spending 12 years at music school, she abandoned practice and dedicated herself to the theory and history of what she considers the most beautiful of all arts. After a while, she missed making music. She swapped the piano for home-made synthesizers, contact microphones, and a turntable. “Contemporary music” are the two words she uses every day. She feels most at home at low circulation magazines. She honed her skills at Aktivist and Exklusiv. She also works for Glissando and Dwutygodnik. At “Przekrój”, she’s responsible for coming up with ideas and coordinating the ideas of other people. She writes for the column “Szafa gra”. She prefers to ask questions than to supply answers. She considers writing superior to talking.
