Joy Aglaja Janczak

PRZEKRÓJ Foundation Assistant

Born and raised on the Polish seaside, where she enjoyed a fantastic childhood full of books, before later graduating in Polish Studies and Cultural Studies. A bookseller, bassist, actor, and alternative model. An award-winning poet and prose writer (her writing can be found online). The mother of two amazing young adults, and the adoptive mother of Kjura the black cat.

Fanatical about Iceland, Joy is a keen visitor to cold-climate islands and harbor towns. She loves paper, ink, strong coffee, good music, surreal vibes, Leonora Carrington, the (animal-free) circus, and nature; she’s an avid ornithologist. She celebrates life and emphasizes the great power of words; she detests thoughtlessness and a lack of self-reflection. She values the energy of others above their intelligence. When she’s not on another planet and you take a closer look, Joy appears rather similar to Björk—her spirit animal.

At Przekrój, she is responsible for communication with readers, the online store, and—increasingly—marketing.
