The internet, despite being widely available, remains elusive as a virtual entity. Its visualization (what we know as ‘the internet’) is a collection of blue images, implicating digital modernity. Underneath those notions, however, hide the addresses of companies that provide services and management of the internet.

Following them, I found the real locations of such companies in Poland. The dissonance between virtual visions and the actual, physical forms of those places has become the subject of my research. My book “Internety” (The Internets) is a collection of photographs documenting this project. Sales of internet services or computers do not require flashy headquarters. Most of the places I photographed belong to the realm of shadow architecture: they are holed up in booths, barracks and old buildings. Szymon Rogiński
