Ida Świerkocka

Editor

A born seeker…

All her life, Ida has been looking for something, be it her wallet, a candy bar in a ripped pocket, the truth, self-confidence, the purpose of our existence, or her place in the universe. That last one prompted her to graduate from several (perhaps too many) degrees at the University of Warsaw, which she then moulded together into the profession she pursues. For what is editing if not searching for errors; those made by others, but also by herself.

Even though she likes to consider herself a progressive citizen of the world, in some matters she remains painfully conservative. For example, she has spent her whole life living in one neighbourhood, and she does not recognize such basic inventions as the iron or umbrella. This is not to say that she fails to appreciate the idea of the wheel. On the contrary – after all, it was invented so that pizza could be round (although bicycle wheels also play an important role in her life). In her free time, she tries to learn all sorts of languages – OK, she is constantly postponing the exams, but she regrets nothing, knowing that time enjoyed is never wasted. The best part of her work as an editor is the constant self-development it requires, as well as being up-to-date with almost everything in the world. That is why, when she is not poring over the Samuel Bogumił Linde dictionary, she is flipping through all her favourite news publications – starting, of course, with “Przekrój”.
